The Children’s Theatre Company -‘Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy’

World Premier of “Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy”

I accompanied writer and review blogger Mary Aalgaard to the world premier of Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy on March 24.  My two boys, ages 10 and 12, also went with.  They listened to the audio book version written by Gary D. Schmidt which recieved  a Newbery Honor in 2005. My boys were curious how they could translate it into the stage.  It did not disappoint.  The play, adapted by special arrangement by Cheryl L. West, was one of the few plays I have seen where the audience gave a standing ovation as the first actor came out to take a bow.  The boys were at the edge of their seats throughout the performance and described it as ‘amazing’!  The play will have performances though April 8.  The parking is free, the cafe on location is reasonably priced and exceptionally tasteful and the Minneapolis  Institute of Arts is in the same building and also free.  I recommend this play for ages 3rd grade and up; the story is true and relevant to our times where injustice and racism remain.
