Sonya Hess Chamberlain presents Poetry Class for ‘Tuesday Sampler: Taste of the Arts’ series

Sonya Chamberlain

Sonya Hess Chamberlain will present “Poetry: Generating New Work”  from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin Art Center in Brainerd as part of the Taste of the Arts Tuesday Sampler series. Beyond the initial impulse or idea, how does one build a poem, flesh out images, and self-edit to strengthen work?  This workshop will include discussion of fruitful writing exercises and prompts for generating poetry, how to edit your work, and how to generate springboards and ideas for poems down the road.  Participants should expect to spend about half the time in discussion, the other half in various writing exercises.  Class Fee is $10 or $5 for Crossing Arts Alliance members.  Call 833-0416 to register or visit www.crossingarts.org.

Chamberlain holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the Writers Workshop at Warren Wilson College and is a former “Artist in the Schools” with the MN state arts board.  Her work has been published in “The Sun”, “Heliotrope”, “Cadence of Hooves Anthology”, “St Ann’s Review”, “M Review” and other literary publications both print and online.

The Tuesday Sampler: Taste of the Arts Series, presented by The Crossing Arts Alliance, is a literary and visual arts series of classes on Farmer Market Tuesdays at the Franklin Art Center.  Enjoy the Farmers Market at Franklin Arts Center parking lot, 1001 Kingwood St, Brainerd, then come inside, and improve your artistic skills with a fine selection of classes in August and September.

This activity is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund; and grants from Sertoma Winter Wonderland, Brainerd Service League, Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union, and the Anderson Family Legacy Fund.
