Poet laureate Billy Collins coming to Brainerd

A U.S. poet laureate will be featured in a free poetry program that Central Lakes College in Brainerd will present in conjunction with The Crossing Arts Alliance on April 29. Billy Collins has twice been named U.S. poet laureate by the Library of Congress. He will give a public reading at noon the CLC Chalberg Theater. A new children’s picture book, Finding Home, is teaching kids the importance of animal rescue with the story of a homeless cat searching for a name and a forever family. Jeff Johnson, English Teacher at Central Lakes College, is making Brainerd, MN a hot spot for poetry readings. Poetry On The Wall, 2014 Poetry Winners

The 2014 “Poetry on the Wall” event was celebrated with a reception, poetry reading and announcement of the winners at the Q Gallery in the Franklin Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 8.  At the start of the reception, the gallery was filled to standing room with over 70 in attendance. All 52 submitted poems were posted on the four walls of the gallery for all to see and read.
